ST. BRIGID’S DAY CROSS MAKING

The girls in Mr. Maguire’s class had a very enjoyable morning making St. Brigid’s Crosses out of rushes. St. Brigid is one of Ireland’s patron saints and she is celebrated every year on the 1st of February. St. Brigid used rushes to make a cross to help her teach about Jesus Christ and the tradition of making the same cross continues to this day.
Our very own Ms. Kilroy was busy over the weekend collecting these rushes and the girls in 5th class took full advantage of the wonderfully green plants by making a cross for every class in the school. They became so skilled by the end that Erin and Martha even showed Ms. Dargan how to make one!
